Glycoalkaloids in potato wedges and eggplants

The EU CONTAM Panel recommended the monitoring of glycoalkaloids in potato and potato products (Commission Recommendation (EU) 2022/561). 

The following alkaloids and degradation products thereof are recommended for monitoring:

  • α-, β-, and γ-solanine,
  • α-, β-, and γ-chaconine, and
  • solanidine.

Commercially available potato wedges are chosen as matrix of a processed potato product. 

Furthermore, the analysis of 

  • solasonine,
  • solamargine, and
  • solasodine

is offered for the matrix eggplant upon request.
